Self-Paced Online Courses
Two self-paced courses. Two different tools, two different approaches — same great craft. One's Oxford Punch Needle, one's traditional rug hooking. Pick your tool (or do both!)
Oxford Punch Needle Adventure for Beginners & Beyond
Never picked up a punch needle before? No problem!
Or maybe self-taught but feel like there's room for improvement? This is for you!
This is a self-paced online course — 5 modules, 24 video tutorials, and a private site you can watch on your own schedule. Rewatch a section three times if you need to. Skip ahead if you don't. You're in control here, not a syllabus.
No specific kit required — use what you've already got, or let us build a beginner kit around what you want to make. Either way works. Let me know if you need supplies!
What you'll actually learn:
- The tools you need, and just as importantly, why — so you're not guessing at the craft store
- How foundation fabrics differ, and which one is right for your project
- Punching from a blank foundation to a finished piece, start to finish
- The materials and yarns you can use (there's more range here than people expect)
- Working from a pattern — and designing your own, once you're ready
- Troubleshooting: the "mistakes" every beginner hits, and exactly how to fix them
- Finishing techniques, plus ideas for what to make that isn't just rugs
- And so much more!
Taught by me, Robin Whitford, Advanced Oxford Certified Instructor.

Rug Hooking Basics and Beyond
Everything you need to go from "what's a strip of wool" to finishing your first mat.
A self-paced online course — 7 modules, 30+ video tutorials, hosted on a private site. Watch it at 11pm in your pajamas or on your lunch break. Rewind as many times as you want.
No specific kit required — use your own materials, or email me and I'll help you put together a start-up kit based on what you're working toward.
What you'll actually learn:
- Tools worth having, and a few worth trying once you're hooked
- Foundation fabrics — what the differences actually mean
- Materials and yarns you can hook with, including how to prep and cut them
- Hooking from start to finish, no gaps left unexplained
- The terminology that trips everyone up at first — tails, packing, holidays, and what they actually mean
- Finishing techniques, plus plenty of ideas beyond "just rugs"
- And SO much more!
Taught by me, Robin Whitford. Self-paced, no deadline pressure, no wrong way to start.
